What were you struggling with in your business that led you to begin working with virtual assistant?
I never seem to have enough time in the day to keep up with tasks that were required to grow my consulting practice. And, I found that many of the tasks could be delegated with a little explanation – saving me a lot of time.
Tell us a little about what you have delegated and how you work together?
We started with the more repetitive, tedious tasks and have added responsibility as she became more familiar with my business. Her role includes: recording new contacts and existing contact updates, following up on various projects related to volunteer/leadership roles that I have within several trade associations, coordinating updates to the website and tracing speaking engagements and media appearances.
How has working with a virtual assistant supported your business, and you personally?
My personal assistant has freed up time for me to focus on client projects and growing the business.
What differences have you noticed in your business since you started working with a virtual assistant?
I am more proactive - rather than reactive – in my volunteer/leadership roles, I am able to forward requests so that they can get done in a more timely manner to support non-critical yet important priorities and I have someone who can schedule and follow through with attendees on events where I am the speaker, host or sponsor.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs seeking virtual assistants?
Help them be successful by making sure that you provide clarity on tasks and re-occurring projects so that you are on the same page and avoid re-doing tasks. Look for opportunities to offload non-critical priorities. And, ask for their feedback. You would be surprised at the insight they provide.
