It Will Boost Your Productivity, and Bottom Line

Entrepreneur Heidi Reid was skeptical that a virtual assistant could deliver the help her business needed. After doing a bit of research, Heidi realized that virtual assistants are capable of so much more than just admin, and it's a discovery that has helped her business grow and her stress shrink! Read Heidi's story:

What were you struggling with in your business that led you to begin working with a virtual assistant?

Coming from large corporate environment, and starting my own business post starting a family, there was a clear disconnect between what I wanted to get done, and what I physically had capacity to do.

Tell us a little bit about what you have delegated and how you work together?

I have delegated a range of non-urgent but important tasks to VA’s. Tasks include – social media scheduling, admin, copy writing and document editing and research.

I have worked with VAs in 4 different continents. I have a unique product, so it is critical I work with someone who is able to understand my offering, and how it is relevant to my market. I have regular email contact with my out-of-country support, and phone and face-to-face meetings with my domestic VA.

How has working with a virtual assistant supported your business, and you personally?

At first I was hesitant to hire a VA, as I thought they were offering secretarial roles (i.e. diary management and travel bookings) I didn’t need that, so continued to tackle everything myself.

After learning more and hiring my VA’s, I’ve stopped feeling burnt out, and now feel like I’m working with a great team.  It has helped me greatly!

What differences have you noticed in your business since you began working with a virtual assistant?

I’ve noticed that although I’m driving the ship, I’m being held more accountable.  I have a team that is waiting on me to action tasks so they can continue with the work that is asked of them.  Instead of me having the ability to push things back, I now feel I need to be more organised.

What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs seeking virtual assistants?

If you are not so confident about dipping your toes in the VA market, have a look at your business and what you can outsource.  Maybe start small, and do a per-project  basis, instead of having the mindset that you need to employ someone on a permanent basis.

Every business has a list of things that they need to get done, but can’t find the time to get around to doing it.   See if that’s something that would fit within the skillset of a VA, and delegate.  It will only boost your productivity, and bottom line!
