Trudy Simmons is a professional Purpose and Productivity Coach, so when she realized she was struggling in a few aspects of running her own business, she naturally found a way to solve the problem! Trudy began delegating tasks to virtual assistants so she could focus on the core of what she does, and it has really paid off! Read about Trudy's journey and how hiring VA's to assist her has opened many doors and freed up countless hours of her time!
What were you struggling with in your business that led you to begin working with a virtual assistant?
I knew what I wanted to get done, I knew how to get it done, but I needed the right people to implement the vision and to support me and my business. I help women entrepreneurs to find out what their big visions are and what they WANT to do, but I also help them to find the right team to make sure that we are able to move forwards without getting in our own way!
Tell us a little bit about what you have delegated and how you work together?
I have delegated EVERYTHING! I know what I am good at and I know where I need help – MARKETING!! So, I have outsourced all marketing to VA’s and Strategist’s so that I can TALK to my clients and give to my community. It takes away so much pressure.
I work with my VA’s via Asana and Basecamp (project management tools) so that we can keep track of the projects and tick off the tasks as we go (so much fun!).
How has working with a virtual assistant supported your business, and you personally?
You can have Coaches and Friends to support you and your dream, but to have a VA that supports you AND can implement what you want to get done, especially when they care and are a part of your future, it's the best feeling to have someone with you to grow your business and support theirs too!
What differences have you noticed in your business since you began working with a virtual assistant?
There is nothing that I can’t do. If I get stuck on something, then I pick up the phone or Skype to talk to the person that can help. Sometimes it is just the chat that can clear the head and help to realise what the next step is. It also helps me to be more structured in what I want to put out there, because I have to explain it to someone else and in doing that, I have to be clear in what the vision is.
What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs seeking virtual assistants?
I think that I have worked with 10 different VAs in my 5 years of business. Some have moved on to different businesses, some I have HELPED to move on to what they want to do next. Some have not worked-out from either a reliability or a personality fit. BUT… without all of those experiences, I would not have had the opportunity to work out exactly what I needed and how best to work with the next person – it is all growth and understanding. So my advice to other entrepreneurs is, be clear, have clarity, have patience, be kind and invite the best people to be attracted to you and your businesses.
