Tell us a little bit about you, and your business!
New Eagle is a company that develops systems for autonomous, electric vehicles and other alternative fuel vehicles. We started this business in 2008 to provide a faster, more efficient solutions to these emerging industries. In 8 years we’ve developed software and hardware that serves a global customer base.
How did you get started as an entrepreneur?
I got started as an entrepreneur as the result of my husband’s passion to solve customer problems. As a result, I co-founded our company bringing the finance, human resource and operations expertise to his technical side.
What Do you love about the lifestyle?
While I work harder than ever, I appreciate the flexibility I have as an entrepreneur. I’ve had the opportunity to work outside of the office during our son’s summer vacation, attend school functions and be available to him after school. In addition, I have an extremely challenging job where I get to grow and learn new skills continually. The combination of high flexibility and high challenge is a unique perk to entrepreneurship.
Latest Project?
I have stepped back in managing our human resources and I’m loving it! We have a great culture and I am working to grow on our foundational values and make sure our company is growing our employees as a first priority. With a strong commitment to our employees, our customers will have a great team with which to work.
Signature:
He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lost (Jim Elliott)
Why?
Jim Elliott gave his life in missionary service to the South American Indians in the 1950s. His life is an inspiration for me to focus not on the temporary but on the eternal and make sure my priorities reflect my Christian beliefs.
Most inspiring person you have ever met so far and why?
My parents. They taught me the value of hard work and respecting others. These are character qualities that have shaped me throughout my life.
One piece of advice you would give your younger self
Relax! When I was younger I took the challenges of business personally. There is a saying it’s “just business” and there is some truth to this. Through the years I’ve learned the importance of keeping my focus on the most important and not holding grudges for things said while fighting for the best of the company or a project. Understanding my co-workers and customers really are desiring for all of us to succeed has helped me see things from a different perspective and worked for a mutual win-win.
What's the bravest thing you ever had to do?
As the finance person, I often have to make decisions that aren’t always obvious – sometimes that is cutting expenses, sometimes it’s adding staff or capital equipment. It is always the bravest thing I do is to make the hard decision to lead the company forward.
